Answered By Bailey Hirsche, Editor The Shooting Guard or SG is one among the five traditional positions of basketball players in a team. Often, a shooting guard is leaner, shorter and faster than the forwards. They are the ones who make a higher volume of shots and guard the best defensive man of the opposing team. They are also known as 2-guards, 2's and off-guards. In other teams, they ask the shooting guards to bring up the ball. The players are commonly called combo guards.
