When do I release the basketball on a jumpshot?

Answered By Bailey Hirsche, Editor

A jump shot is one of the most important movements in basketball. It is done from a standing position, with two feet leaving the floor. This is used typically for doing a free throw. It is also taken in the mid air or at the top of the jump. This particular movement allows more power and range. This will elevate the player over the defender. The failure to release the ball before your feet touch the ground is a traveling violation.
